don’t tell my child

An album & artbook telling messy and beautiful stories of becoming a parent.

In her third studio album, Mara captures the growing pains that come with her new identities: a mother learning to love, a child grieving a parent's death, an artist looking for peace. The deep poetry and keen melodic sense of the songs fill in Mara’s story with an honest and relatable perspective on the tension inherent in change.

The accompanying artbook features 10 works by parent-artists who also explore the transition to parenthood in their work.

The artbook

This project was born from my own desire to seek out the work of other parents for my own curiosity, but it grew with my belief in the power of stories and art to create beauty out of chaos.

From an ex-long haul trucker in California to a fountain pen-lover in Hong Kong, the pieces in this book give a glimpse into the mind of creative mothers and fathers around the world.
